WHAT IS THE "ACCREDITATION SCOPE" OF A QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OR OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ?

"Accreditation scope" is expressed by the sectors of economic activities and is used by JAB when it grants accreditation to a registration body. JAB determines if a registration body has the expertise necessary for carrying out the assessment activities for the sectors of organizations, and uses the accreditation scope to identify such sectors of expertise covered by the body.

These sectors represent all the industrial activities that are classified into 39 sectors, and they are a translation of NACE, Rev. 1/ Amend. issued by the Commission of European Communities.

The companies and organizations that intend to apply for assessment and registration by bodies accredited by JAB can find out the expertise of registration bodies by looking up the scope for which individual registration bodies are respectively accredited.

This classification is defined in the "Procedure for accreditation of registration bodies of quality systems (JAB R 200-2001)" and "Procedure for accreditation of registration bodies of EMS (JAB R 200-2001)" and the details of classification can be confirmed through "JAB R 310-1994, Rev. 1, Matrix table of the accreditation scopes of registration bodies (sectors 1 through to 39) and sectors of economic activities (informative reference)".
