HOW TO BE AN "AUDITOR"
If you want to work as an auditor belonging to a registration body for assessment activities under the quality system registration scheme or environmental management system registration scheme, you will have to satisfy requirements for the selection of auditors and be employed (contracted) by the body as internal or external auditor.
At present, it is common for many of registration bodies in Japan to require as one of the auditor selection requirements that candidates for auditors are registered with one of the following auditor evaluation and registration centers:
Auditor evaluation and registration body for ISO 9000s quality systems:
Japanese Registration of Certificated Auditors, Japanese Standards Association
Auditor evaluation and registration body for ISO14001:
Center of Environmental Auditors Registration in Japan, Environmental Management Association for Industry
For further information (information on qualification requirements, request for application forms, etc.), please contact these individual bodies.
There are three qualification ranks of auditors, namely, provisional auditor, auditor and lead auditor. Normally, you will be first registered as provisional auditor. One of the requirements to be registered as provisional auditor is for you to "complete a training course" and you will be required to complete a training course provided by an auditor training body accredited by JAB. For you who are now registered as provisional auditor, to be auditor, there is a further mandatory requirement of having assessment experience longer than a certain specification, and it is actually difficult to satisfy this requirement unless you are registered with one of the registration bodies.
Regarding the programs, fees, schedules, etc. of training courses, please inquire one of the auditor training bodies accredited by JAB.
Elsewhere, the international mutual recognition of auditor training and evaluation and registration schemes has made a progress and as regards quality system auditors, the Japanese Registration of Certificated Auditors, Japanese Standards Association has already signed a multilateral agreement with the International Auditor and Training Certification Association (IATCA) and there is an option for you to be evaluated/ registered as IATCA auditor. For details, please contact the above.
