WHAT IS ISO?

ISO is an abbreviation signifying the International Organization for Standardization whose headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland, and is a non-governmental and non-profit organization for the development of international standards.

One representative organization from each country is invited to participate in ISO and Japan is represented by the "Japan Industrial Standards Committee" .

ISO has developed more than 10,000 standards in total comprising product standards that define specifications of products, testing standards for testing methods, and management system standards and others.

The official contact in Japan of ISO is the Standards Development and Planning Division of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
