IN ORDER TO OBTAIN REGISTRATION AGAINST ISO 9000s, WHAT KIND OF PROCEDURES DO WE HAVE TO FOLLOW ?

ISO 9000s are issued in 1987 and are international standards for quality management systems. They require, in a nutshell, that a mechanism is created so that it ensures to provide, in a stable manner, product/ services that are in satisfaction of purchasers' (business contacts, customers) requirements. Of ISO 9000 series of standards, those that contain requirements relevant to assessment and registration are ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003.

ISO 9001 is comprised of twenty elements of requirements. ISO 9002 share the same elements as ISO 9001 but it does not have those for design and development. On the other hand, ISO 9003 covers a narrower scope consisting mainly of testing/ inspection.

For your information, these ISO 9000s were revised in December 2000 to be integrated into ISO 9001.

Before receiving assessment and registration against ISO 9001, you will have to start with building a mechanism in your organization that complies with relevant standards (ISO9001, ISO9002, ISO9003).

At the same time, you need to choose a registration body that has the expertise for the sector of industry in which you seek registration. As of March 20, 2002, there are 41 registration bodies that are accredited by JAB. You should review the accreditation scope sectors for which they are accredited and their records of registrations, to decide which body you should seek registration with.

JAB is an accreditation body that grants accreditation to registration bodies and makes assessment of their expertise based on international criteria (ISO/IEC Guide 62 and its IAF criteria).

Therefore, the most common practice is to select a registration body accredited by JAB and furthermore, the one that is accredited for the expertise for which your organization is seeking registration. For detailed information on procedures for receiving assessment, please contact individual registration bodies accredited by JAB.
