Laboratory is a body that determines the characteristics/ performance of products/ materials using scientific methods.

Laboratory accreditation is one of the conformity evaluations for accreditation that audits laboratories based on requirements referred to as ISO/IEC 17025.

If an accreditation body grants accreditation to a laboratory based on ISO/IEC 17025, such laboratory is given a right to issue test reports that bear the logo mark of the accreditation body.

This laboratory accreditation scheme now covers various fields mainly in European countries, U.S.A., and Australia and since international mutual recognition agreements have also been concluded, test reports that were once required for importing/ exporting products based on the respective standards of importing/ exporting countries are no longer necessary, and a test report issued in only the exporting country of product will suffice, since it is accepted also in the country of its import.

We, JAB, started laboratory accreditation in 1996 and as of February 2003, we have 105 laboratories in our register of accredited laboratories for fields including mechanical and chemical.

Furthermore, in 1998, we signed a mutual recognition arrangement under the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) and as a signatory member to this MRA group, we have expanded fields where we can be active as a laboratory accreditation body accepted internationally.

We are also active in the accreditation of calibration laboratories performing calibration of measuring devices used for testing in laboratories, based on ISO/IEC 17025, and as of February 2003, we have 20 calibration laboratories in our register of accredited calibration laboratories.
